Good weekend for me and other news

Blog 091007

Lots of weekend stuff this time around.

Work was pretty easy this past week especially with it being just a 4 day week because of Labor Day. I also got to do the job I like almost the whole week.

A friend and former co-worker of mine wants to investigate my parents’ house. He’s into the paranormal and I’ve mentioned my parents’ house several times over. My parents said yes and they mentioned my sister’s place too. She also said yes. So now it’s up to my buddy to set up some potential dates to make it all happen. He’ll be bringing along some friends from TAPS. Those are the guys that do Ghosthunters on Sci-Fi network.

Because of my buddy Ryan asking about investigating I ended up bringing it up at work. I located the rough draft of my little book of stories on my parents’ house and brought them to work. It was an even ratio of people interested. Some scoffed at the notion of ghosts, some didn’t really want to delve into it preferring ignorance and some liked the stories.

I took a chance and loaned the rough draft to one of my co-workers. She’s a good kid but unreliable. She’s being suspended for three days for lousy attendance. She’s kind of ironic to give some one days off because they take too many days off. Since I’m taking this coming Friday off if she doesn’t return the book tonight I won’t see her for over a week. I’d hate to lose the draft because it’s the only copy I have that I know exactly where it is. I should have a master copy but it’s buried in unopened boxes somewhere. I still haven’t opened a number of my moving boxes because with my brother moved in I lost all my extra room. I still have a pile of boxes under my kitchen table and in a kitchen corner because I have no where else for them to fit in the house.

Saturday started off as usual. I got home from work and played some Call of Duty 2 on-line until I went to bed. I slept for a couple of hours and called my buddy at the comic store. He was alone there and mentioned he might close early. I headed down to the store in CT to get some more of those Marvel statues I’ve recently started to collect. I picked up The Black Panther who’s my favorite statue so far. I also bought Loki who looks surprisingly good for a guy dressed in bright yellow and green. And I also bought Iron Man. I was going to wait on Iron Man because he looks good overall but is not my favorite. The store owner jacked up him up to $20 and wrote ‘sold out’ on him. Apparently he can’t get any more of that particular Iron Man. At least, that’s what he told me. I wasn’t happy paying $20 when the others where $13.99 but I did pay it. I didn’t want to come back and find out his stash of Iron Man really is sold out. In the end, I was quite happy with my purchases.

I stopped at my buddy’s comic shop and hung out there for awhile. I showed him my new purchases and together I ordered about 8 statues through him. The plan is to display them until I buy them since I can’t just buy over $100 of statues in one shot. Well, I could but I don’t feel like dipping into my savings. With the statues being on display it could generate interest from other customers. Even though I ordered about 8 statues I want even more than that. Still, I didn’t want to go overboard in over committing myself.

I dug through my spending cash and gathered up all my extra cash I had lying around. My buddy and I were looking up display cases and we found one for about $105 including shipping and handling that looks fairly decent. I ordered it up last night. It could be here as soon as Friday. I put it on my charge card through PayPal. Today I’ll be depositing the money to pay off that purchase as soon as I get my new credit card bill. I hate bills. It’ll be nice to have my statues in a display case instead of just sitting precariously on the top shelf of my bedroom bookcase. I need something to protect them in because my cat climbs on everything and every surface and has knocked down a lot of stuff some it very valuable to me.

I have a love/hate relationship with my cat. It’s a fun cat but at the same time I really it hate. It’s done some expensive damage to my place because it has to climb on everything. I’ve considered giving it away several times now. Its latest thing is to climb all over my soda cans that I keep on top of a small counter top. These cans are usually in the ‘fridge mate’ cardboard cases that range from being full to almost empty. She starts slipping and sliding around and knocks them down rupturing the cans and ruining the soda.

Her other thing is to wall across the decorative exposed beams in my house that are seven feet high. It leaps from beam to beam which are about three and a half feet apart and there are 4 of them. I’m waiting for the cat to miss and be seriously injured by the fall and break a limb. It often is so high up it starts crying when it wants to come down. The cat is not smart.

Sunday was the bulk of opening day for NFL football. My favorite team, The New England Patriots, should do well and make the play-off’s. They have a very good shot at making a serious run at the SuperBowl. They did a pretty good number on a division rival and scored an important first victory. It’s an important victory because the team they beat should be the only one that challenges them for the division crown and gives the Patriots an early edge up by having a tie-breaker and division win. Next up are the tough San Diego Charges who finished with the best regular season record last year. They’ll be looking for revenge since the Patriots bounced them out of the play-off’s last year.

In my fantasy leagues I’m all over the charts. In my ‘pick ‘em’ league I’ve picked 12 games correctly and 2 incorrectly so far. The last 2 games of the week play later tonight.

In the fantasy league I really want to win I’m 3 points behind my opponent. I have my kicker going tonight and he has a defensive player going. It’ll be real close. I was hurt my having one of my players pulled out of a game and I had no back-up. It’s ugly seeing a 0.00 posted next to a guy’s name if it’s your’s.

In my second league I’m going to lose. My QB stunk up the joint scoring 5 points while he was projected to score over 15. While I’m ahead by 2 points my opponent has his QB and top receiver going AND someone else. So that’ll be a loss.

In my baseball league my team did a complete reversal of fortunes. After going 1-12-1 to back into the play-off’s I finished 10-3-1 to boot my opponent from the play-off’s. He must be kind of pissed. His team finished the regular season with almost 30 wins more than mine. My team was 133 wins, 157 loses, 18 ties. My opponent finished in fourth with a record of 169 wins, 118 loses and 21 ties. Now I face the team that placed first in the regular season. He went 179-102-27. Hey, anything can happen!

So for a chunk of Sunday I was watching football for many upon many hours and checking scores for my fantasy leagues.

I did go to my parents place for Sunday dinner. We had dough boys and peach cobbler. Dough boys are nothing more than bits of bread dough allowed to rise and then deep fried. With some syrup they taste awesome. It’s more commonly know as fried dough but I prefer the way my mom cooks it to all others. They are so heavy though that 9 pieces filled me up. Actually, that’s quite a few. I couldn’t eat any peach cobbler since my tank was full. I did scarf down some watermelon though.

I was sent home with much food though. I got a popcorn ball (first of the season), probably half of the peach cobbler, and I think something else that I’m forgetting. My brother also had purchased some big ass baskets of apples and peaches that were shared with the parents so there was a big supply of new foods at my house.

I watched more football and then perused over about 500 pictures from Dragon Con on the internet before heading off to bed. The pictures from Dragon Con, the best sci-fi, fantasy, you name it convention in the country were pretty slick and inspired a new character or two from the ever grinding gears in my head. I think my favorite costumed girl this year is of all things a Dark Phoenix. For a simply red and gold spandex combined with gold thigh high boots it’s really caught my eye. There were several Phoenixes at the con but this particular girl caught my eye the most and she’s not even gorgeous. LOL! Decent looking but the other Phoenixes were actually cuter in the face. There was a great Freak car there too that looked awesome. And there are still something like 500+ more photos that I haven’t looked at yet. Gotta say, digital cameras and Flickr are the shit!

I feel bad for my brother. Seems the ex has no problem with letting a six year old boy walk the streets unsupervised. His 12 year old sister is suppose to meet him and walk him home from baby-sitting but she’s already been late twice doing it which has caused him to start walking to his mother’s alone. Nice. But ex says older sister is reliable enough to continue this. So apparently while talking to the ex about this situation last night the ex refusing to change things and apparently starts ripping into my brother. And once again, she brings up something that I totally do not believe happened at all. She continues to claim that my brother had sex with a former girlfriend in front of my niece and nephew and her 3 kids. WTF?! First off, I don’t believe this incident ever happened. Second, the story probably came from my niece who was actively and under the guidance of her mother trying to make my brother lose custody of her. Third, that same niece is a notoriously liar and of dubious character exactly like her mother and actually trained by her mother to be an underhanded lying cur. Even psychologists dealing with my niece say she’s been coached on what to say and what not to say during visits. So all of this pretty much boils down to my brother’s ex being a piece of shit of a human being doing everything she can to control the situation and inflict pain on others. Of course, we are talking about a woman (?) that wants to have my older niece arrested for giving the trouble-making niece a ride to the mall to see a movie per request for which trouble niece then sneaks off to spend the night at a boy’s house in another town some 20 minutes drive away.

On another note my nephew seems to have a troubled history of being abusive to other people, both kids and adults resulting in being kicked out of day camps and Boys & Girls Clubs. Hmmn, could it be the fact that his ‘mother’ lets her 12 year old daughter raise him? Naaaaahh, it couldn’t be that!

The ghost thing is awesome. Have fun with it.

I know what you mean about the cat. Shiva is a little thief. He steals tissues out of boxes, which is a real pain in the ass (cleaning chewed-up tissue).

He has knocked over my antique lamp SEVERAL times and now it doesn't work quite right. Grrr... It was a gift from my Nana, and everytime I find it on its side, I just wanna toss Shiva into my bedroom and shut the door, so he can't cause trouble.

Of course, then he'd probably tear up my room. He's a crazy kitty.
